Mateo,[3] which modified the provisions of the Rules of Court insofar as they provide for direct appeals from the RTC to this Court in cases where the penalty imposed is death, reclusion perpetua or life imprisonment, this case was earlier[4] referred to the CA for appropriate action and disposition, whereat it was docketed as CA-G.R.
