| Moreover, we find in favor of appellant the mitigating circumstance of voluntary surrender. For surrender to be voluntary, it must be spontaneous and must show the intent of the accused to submit himself unconditionally to the authorities, either: (1) because he acknowledges his guilt; or (2) because he wishes to save the authorities the trouble and expense incidental to his search and capture.[27] Appellant testified that after the hacking incident he went to the house of kagawad Rafael Mendoza who brought him to the Municipal Building of Aroroy to admit to the killing, albeit in self-defense.
