| The Court of Appeals has the power to grant an extension of time to file a petition for review. In Lacsamana v. Second Special Cases Division of the Intermediate Appellate Court,[18] we declared that the Court of Appeals could grant extension of time in appeals by petition for review. In Liboro v. Court of Appeals,[19] we clarified that the prohibition against granting an extension of time applies only in a case where ordinary appeal is perfected by a mere notice of appeal. The prohibition does not apply in a petition for review where the pleading needs verification. A petition for review, unlike an ordinary appeal, requires preparation and research to present a persuasive position.[20] The drafting of the petition for review entails more time and effort than filing a notice of appeal.[21] Hence, the Court of Appeals may allow an extension of time to file a petition for review. | |||||
